Ocean’s Whisper

game



Ocean’s Whisper is a 3D unreal meditative experience centered around the cyclical nature of life, death and rebirth. The player plays as Luna, a young sea creature embarking on a journey to discover the world around her for the first time. The maps consist of 4 different zones that connect into a circular path. The juxtaposition of a whimsical, pure character facing these deeper, universal truths invites reflection on how life’s most complex and inevitable experiences can be framed in a way that’s gentle, yet profound.

Unreal and Blueprints


I was in charge of all the Unreal programing. I conducted small playtesting sessions to refine the movement and scale of the environment and align them with the experience's theme.
We brainstormed ideas for how the map and zones would look. I then proceeded to conceptualize how the areas would connect into a large map that the player would explore and how the player would feel a “flow.”

Sound Design


To Accompany Ocean’s Whisper’s experience, I composed a reactive soundscape using a combination of Reaper and MetaSound. The soundscape was designed to accompany the experience. Thus, I used water-based samples and recordings, modified with different filters in Reaper and MetaSound. The primary filters used were reverb and low pass to contribute to the feeling of being underwater. In addition, to convey a relaxing aspect, I composed an ambient soundtrack in Reaper with different VSTs.
The reactive components are attached to the characters' movement and location.
